Description

Antique Regency Mahogany Astragal Glazed Bureau Bookcase and dating from around 1820. Constructed from quality mahogany it has a moulded cornice with crossbanded frieze above two astragal glazed doors with working key and three fully adjustable original shelves. The base with fall front edged with fine stringing opens to reveal a superb interior with a leather skiver and a central door with fine stringing flanked on either side by a turned column which are in fact secret drawers ( see photos). To each side there is a scalloped frieze ( which are secret drawers) above various pigeon holes and three serpentine shaped small drawers all of which are oak lined with fine stringing and original handles. The base has two small drawers and a sliding lower to each side above three long graduating drawers all of which are oak lined with original swan neck handles. To each side of the base is a quarter turned column and it stands on ogee bracket feet . The top removes from the base for ease of transporting.
