Description

Superior Antique William 1V Figured Mahogany Mirror Backed Writing Desk and dating from around 1830. I have to comment that the photographs of this desk do not represent the superior quality of the figured mahogany, fine detail or craftsmanship of this beautiful piece that we feel was made by Gillows of Lancaster but is unmarked. It has a scrolled and carved back with central cartouche to the top above a serpentine shaped shelf with double beaded edge on scrolled side supports with turned finial to the top and with a long mirror to the back. There are two rows of two short drawers all of which are mahogany lined with working key and with beaded edges to the drawers and base. The desk itself has a sliding embossed leather skiver which extends outwards of the desk and which sits within a moulded edge. There are two long drawers t�o the front both of which are mahogany lined with working keys and beaded edges. It is raised on early Gillows fluted and spiralled legs and on a turned foot.
